Conference Topics
SWIM 2027 builds on the two core axes of the SWIM community — Salt Water Intrusion (SWI) and Submarine Groundwater Discharge (SGD) — and welcomes contributions that connect these classical themes with emerging and cross-cutting topics in coastal and island groundwater science.
The meeting is organised around the vision of "mutual learning on land–ocean interaction: connections beyond the dilemma and boundaries" (Taniguchi et al., 2019), and particularly encourages contributions that bridge upstream and downstream, observation and modelling, disciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches, local and global scales, and research and implementation.
The session themes are being finalised by the International Scientific Committee and will be published in the first circular.
An Okinawan reef community — living laboratories of land–ocean interaction, and the setting for many of the field sites that will be visited during SWIM 2027.
All communities related to SWI / SGD are welcome
Contributions from hydrology, oceanography, geophysics, geochemistry, microbiology, ecology, fisheries science, social science and related fields are all encouraged. Session proposals bridging two or more of the themes above are especially welcome.
